I’m Henry Mathieu. Some days I’m a copywriter.

Some days I’m a creative director.
Some days I go fishing.
The way I see it, my job is to convince people to want whatever you’re selling. If you need a campaign idea that will move people to buy your product, I’m your guy. If you want your ads to get stuck in people’s heads, I can write them for you. If you have a creative department, I can run it for you. If you want to make some TV commercials or online videos, I can direct them for you.
BIO
I grew up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, skiing and fly fishing in the Tetons.
When I was 15, my family moved to Paris. I went to high school at L'Ecole Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel where I learned to speak French and tried to convince girls to hang out with me in smoky cafes.
As an undergrad at Williams College, I double majored in English and Studio Art. I read a lot of novels, painted a lot of pictures, and studied abroad at the Glasgow School of Art.
I graduated in 2002 and moved to San Francisco right as the .com bubble was bursting. My timing could have been better, but I managed to get my first taste of life in a creative department at Foote Cone & Belding, and to have my first painting exhibition at the Café Royale. A year later, I shot down to Los Angeles, and got a job promoting movies for TLR & Associates, an entertainment focused advertising agency in Studio City.
After two years in two different cities in California, I packed up and headed back East. I found a loft in Park Slope, signed back on with FCB, and lived in New York for a pretty good stretch.
In 2008, I moved down South to be a Creative Director at Rawle Murdy, an independent agency in Charleston, South Carolina. In my tenure there, I wrote and directed numerous TV commercials and online videos, and I ran their creative department. I still keep a toehold in the Lowcountry.
In 2013, my close friends Jonathan Campo, Josh Frankel, and I founded Gravy Boat Regatta, a Brooklyn-based advertising and entertainment studio. We write, direct, illustrate, and animate original comedy that lives online and on television. We also provide select clients a range of advertising, design, and video production services.
I'm a hired gun | freelance copywriter | creative director | screenwriter currently based in Brooklyn. I’m open to freelance opportunities wherever they present themselves.
